I don't think my day could have started off any worse, and ended any better. For starters, my packing for my trip started with a calculus final, so in all honesty, didn't really even pack until Friday afternoon, leaving way too much to do Saturday morning. In checking the Delta website, it said our flight didn't leave til 5:30 then Orbitz called saying 4:20. So never really knew what time we were leaving. But in finishing my stressful packing to make it to Caroline to get to the airport, I shoved everything left in my bag, and hoped to not forget anything...first traveler's mistake. What can I say, I'm a rookie. If I started making a rules of travel, number one. don't procrastinate on the packing, because it really only leads to bringing too much of the wrong stuff. I really wouldn't say I "overpacked," but the scale at the curb side check-in begged to differ, and Delta just made lots of money off my rookie mistake.
And once we got inside the airport, things ran fairly smooth, despite the fact that Iceland's sweet volcano decided it wanted to start spreading more ash over northern Europe again late last week. So in thanks to you volcano, our flight was delayed. All international flights had to be redirected and in doing so, our flight actually flew north over Canada, across southern Greenland, and flew just north of the volcano over Iceland, and landed in Rome. Probably the longest possible flight, just to get to Rome. But only after we waited on the plane for over an hour for our flight crew to steal trash bins from another plane because ours was missing them, and some run states you can't fly without locked in trash bins. Who knew? Way to go Delta...
So 12 hours later, absolutely no sleep because there is no good position to sleep for longer than 2 and half minutes on a flight sitting in between Caroline who's passed out and our random UGA friend Austin who was on "graduation vacation" with his mom and sister who were sitting behind us. Cool guy. Very inquisitive. So I got in some quality time with my personal movie screen watching: Dear John, Twilight: New Moon, and the Hangover. And I'm not even sure why I watched those movies, I really just wanted something on so I could fall asleep. Unsuccessful.
But no worries. I made it to Rome. And so did my "heavy" marked bag. But anyone that wonders why I'm not a fan of flying, need I say more....
